The 13-Week Tea Mastery Certification
Course™, a three-month program, contains all of the
educational requirements an individual needs for achieving the prestigious
Certified Tea Master™
designation. Perhaps more importantly, the course holds the high level
of focus and support needed to gain the competence and confidence to
serve as a tea master at a distinguished restaurant, hotel or tea court,
or start one’s own successful enterprise.
The two-part 13-Week Tea Mastery Certification Course™ includes:
5-day
- COMPREHENSIVE TEA MASTERY COURSE (on-site)
12-week
- TEA MASTERY TELECOURSE (home study)
Each course is open to a maximum of 24 registrants. Participants in this program stay together as a group for all 13 weeks, which means you are in a small and intimate group where in-depth sharing and learning takes place. The first week is in-person and the last 12 weeks are by a bridge-line (teleconference call). This assures safety, confidentiality, and a supportive learning environment with each participant as dedicated to their professional path as you are to yours.
The program is designed for and will benefit:
Restaurant and
tea court managers, wine sommeliers, tea aficionados, industry suppliers,
and
others who wish
to incorporate tea mastery skills into their daily lives or current
profession.
Anyone seriously
interested in a career as a tea master.
The American Tea Masters Association utilizes the knowledge and talent of certified, highly trained facilitators for its courses. The facilitators have been trained and certified by the association, and have established credentials and successful business experience in the tea industry.
The beauty of the program is that you can be up and running as a tea master following the first week of training with all the tools, confidence and support needed. The program has been designed to make sure that your first week as a new tea master is filled with all the information, experience, and support you need to start serving guests immediately.
The following 12-weeks are focused on integrating and expanding what you learned during the first week. You will learn to consciously create your expanding practice as a tea master.
The program consists of two parts:
Part 1. 5-day COMPREHENSIVE TEA MASTERY COURSE
During the 5-day Comprehensive Tea Mastery
Course, you will be totally immersed in a unique and
intense week of accelerated learning and training, along with real-life
practice sessions preparing and serving many different teas. See Schedule
for training locations, dates, and details.
This is a great way to get started serving as a tea master. You receive all the core skills, structures, taste-testing protocols, philosophy, and first-hand experience, all at one time. It's a great jump-start to put your intention into practice!
Part 2. 12-week - TEA MASTERY TELECOURSE
The 12-week - Tea Mastery Telecourse begins immediately after the conclusion of the 5-Day Comprehensive Tea Mastery Course. This part of the training is focused on integrating and expanding what was learned during the first part. Registrants will be working at home from the 143-page Tea Mastery Telecourse Training Manual with 12 departments, each on a separate variety of tea. They will be provided with three different tea samples corresponding to each department (i.e., 3 types of Japanese Green Tea). They will be assigned a different department each week and asked to taste-test and evaluate the three corresponding tea samples according to the protocol learned in the first part of the course, and then asked to submit their evaluations in a special online form created for this purpose.
Then, starting on the first Wednesday following the end of the Comprehensive Tea Mastery Course, from 9-10 am Pacific Time, and each Wednesday thereafter for the next 11 weeks, the entire class will meet via a Bridge Line (teleconference call) to discuss the specific teas in that department in greater depth, including the tea tastings and evaluations, their likes and dislikes, and numerous other issues. We will follow this same procedure for all 12 weeks of the course.
A Bridge Line is an interactive telephone conference call that can be placed from any phone from any location in the world. Registrants will be given the phone number to call, and a PIN number to enter, prior to the start of the course.

Once completed, there will be a final exam composed of multiple-choice and true-false questions, essay questions, and a blind taste-testing of a tea they will be asked to evaluate. Graduates will be honored with the Certified Tea Master™ designation and an engraved lapel pin.
