Just imagine being trained to become an ITMA Certified Tea Sommelier™ in the magnificent Assam region of India, the hub of the the country’s majestic tea industry. This phenomenal 8-Week ITMA Tea Sommelier Certification Course™, a two-month, two-part program, contains all the educational requirements an individual needs for achieving the prestigious ITMA Certified Tea Sommelier™ designation. It starts with the 3-Day ITMA Comprehensive Tea Sommelier Course™ held on-site in Guwahati, Assam, India, from March 22nd – 24th, from 9am to 5pm each day.
The 8-Week ITMA Tea Sommelier Tasting Course™ starts the following week involving home study. Apart from giving you an overall perspective of Tea as a Global drink, registrants will have the opportunity to taste and evaluate teas from all around the Globe: Green teas from China, Japan, Taiwan, Hawaii and India. You will also get to familiarise yourself with Oolongs, White Teas, Darjeeling and obviously Black teas, both Orthodox and CTC from India as well as Africa. Registrants will also experience Puerh teas from Yunnan province of China!. This will be followed by tasting and evaluating a Mystery Tea, a Report (oral or written) on a topic assigned by ITMA, and a Final Examination ($95 Examination Fee).
The course holds the high level of focus and support needed to gain the competence and confidence to serve as a distinguished tea sommelier at any upscale restaurant, hotel, or tea business, or expand or start one’s own successful tea business.
The training will be conducted by ITMA Certified Tea Master™ Parag Hatibarua, born and brought up on tea estates in Assam, and a third generation tea master following the path of his grandfather and father. He is a professional Tea Taster and Tea Auctioneer with 28 years of experience in tea manufacturing, production, and quality control.
Parag will take the registrants to a Tea Estate for practical knowledge on tea manufacturing and to impart knowledge on the Commercial and Quality aspects of processing tea to a final stage.
Accommodation in Guwahati range from Five Star hotel facilities to very reasonably priced Guest Houses. If required, registrants may ask for assistance for booking overnight accommodations. The 3-Day ITMA Comprehensive Tea Sommelier Course™will be held in a conference room at one of the Guest Houses, which accommodate up to 8 registrants. Seating is limited.
The training contains all the educational requirements an individual needs for achieving the association’s prestigious ITMA Certified Tea Sommelier™ designation once the program, blind tea tasting, oral or written dissertation, and final examination are successfully completed.
