The training for becoming an ITMA Certified Tea Sommelier™ starts with the 2-Day ITMA Comprehensive Tea Sommelier Course™ held on-site at a New York City hotel to be announced  on March 26th & 27h, 2019, from 9am to 5pm each day.

The 8-Week ITMA Tea Sommelier Tasting Course™ starts the following week involving home study, tasting and evaluating 18 different teas, and periodic online teleconferences to share experiences and ask questions. This will be followed by tasting and evaluating a Mystery Tea, a Report (oral or written) on a topic assigned by ITMA, and a Final Examination ($95 Examination Fee).

stijn-van-schoonlandtThe training will be led in English by ITMA Certified Tea Sommelier™, Certified Tea Blender™, and Certified Tea Master Stijn Van Schoonlandt. With a strong background in tea and blending, and proprietor of his own coffee and tea establishment in Belgium, he promises to make this an especially memorable, life-changing experience for everyone.

Accommodations will be announced shortly.  The 2-Day Comprehensive Tea Sommelier Course™ will be held in a meeting room at this hotel. Seating is limited.

The training contains all the educational requirements an individual needs for achieving the association’s prestigious ITMA Certified Tea Sommelier™ designation once the program, blind tea tasting, oral (5 minute) or written (4 page) dissertation with a subject assigned by the ITMA, and 100+ question final examination are successfully completed.

Registrants will experience some of the most exquisite loose-leaf teas from around the world. The training will also include: Health Benefits of Tea and Valuable Guest Service Skills.
